Hoof Care
Barefoot hoof care is a unique approach to managing hoof health. Our goal is to have the horses in our care performing at their best without the use of iron shoes or constant protection whenever possible. A significant number of my clients have seen great success remaining barefoot. While I am not opposed to protection in the form of hoof armor, boots or composite shoes whenever necessary, my commitment is always to work towards achieving the healthiest hoof possible.

Hoof Armor

I have been doing hoof armor applications for about 8 years. Initially, the product was primarily used to add a layer of protection while helping the sole to grow thicker. In recent years, I have included it in my resection protocol to grow out hoof cracks. It has been a game changer. Cracks that would normally take a year or more of consistent resecting and treatment from the client can be grown out within 6-8 months without any treatment required by the owner in between applications. Not only do we get the desired result much faster, but it also requires significantly less work for the horse owner.

PEMF (pulsed electromagnetic field) is a non invasive therapy that uses magnetic fields that pass through the body to influence cell health by effectively charging the cells and promoting the regeneration of new healthy cells. PEMF helps to separate coin stacked RBC (Rouleaux effect) to help with improved mobilization of oxygenated blood to the tissues. Together these processes create a healthy environment in the body by reducing inflammation, increasing circulation and tissue oxygenation and promoting cell proliferation and collagen formation.
PEMF does not require the use of sedation and can be used to treat large areas of the body or a specific area of concern.
